Leveraging Job Boards to Secure a Teaching Position

Posted: 06.05.2024

Niche job boards for Teaching and school jobs provide a unique platform for educators to network Here are some facts to consider:

  • Bilingual Teacher jobs, ESL, ELL, ELA, and Dual Immersion Teacher jobs: Specialist job boards like Diversityteachers.org are niche job boards with job fairs focused on these positions. They regularly post vacancies in this area, providing a vast array of opportunities for educators.
  • Technology Education/Support Staff & Services: Sites like Jobs Boards that specialize in this sector help teachers with a knack for tech find the right fit.
  • Substitute Teacher: search for job boards with job listings where substitute teachers can find work at public and private schools nationwide.
  • Private School/Employer: If your target employer is a private school, check the listings of employers on job boards to see if they include private schools or only focus on public or charter schools.  The benefit of working for private schools is that salaries tend to be higher, and the requirements for entry-level teaching are often less strict because private schools have more flexibility.
  • Special Education:  SPED or Special Education Teacher jobs and related careers are highly sought after and often pay higher salaries.  Look for niche job fairs for SPED teachers or hiring events with this focus.
  • Public School: If you are a recent University graduate and do not have a teaching license but want to work for Public Schools, look for schools with special programs that will allow you to work as a Teacher while enrolled in a teaching license program or look for a teaching internship program.
  • Community Colleges:  To teach at a community college, you must have a master's or PhD.  You do not need a teaching license to teach, but you must have a higher level of education.

Case Study: Board of Education recruitment of diversity Teachers and educators

Posted: 03.15.2023
Board of Education partners with Diversityteachers.org to implement their diversity and inclusion mission and recruit Teachers and Principals from underrepresented groups. Client:   School Board of Education

Goal:  To implement their diversity and inclusion mission and recruit 100 Teachers and Principals from minority groups, including Latino and African Americans.

Their situation and past efforts:  The client's schools managed their recruitment and had postings and advertisements on general job boards, networking sites, and social media websites.  They also attended yearly University career fairs and some minority-focused events.  Some schools were more successful in their efforts, while others were not successful at all, and it affected their minority recruitment goals each year.

Diversityteachers.org solution:   Our team met with the Board of Education and proposed an inclusive recruitment strategy managed at the Board of Education level and deployed to all the schools so that all the schools benefited from one strategy.   The strategy included a yearly proposal in which all schools would post unlimited jobs, view unlimited resumes,  attend diversity career fairs,  social media, and job board advertising, newsletter advertising, career podcast advertising, and interviews with their diversity leaders streamed on our youtube channel, podcast channels, and social media channels.   Monthly online meetings were held with each school's stakeholders and the board of education stakeholders to review metrics and modify and implement any changes.

Results:  Over 100 Teachers and Principals were recruited from underrepresented groups, including Latinos and African-Americans, among other minorities.    Branding results were also measured, resulting in positive feedback and image for the Board of Education.   The partnership was extended to multiple years for continued recruitment.
