Job Description:
Under the supervision of the Director or designee, will plan and implement a developmentally appropriate program meeting the unique needs of severely disabled students.
ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS: 1. Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, gymnastics, body mechanics, rhythms and dance; and individual, dual or team games to special education students. 2. Works cooperatively with other classroom teachers in planning a balanced physical education program. 3. Analyzes, demonstrates and explains basic skills, knowledge and of formal sports, games, rhythms and fundamentals of body movement. 4. Evaluate each pupil's growth in physical fitness, physical skills, knowledge and social and emotional growth. Prepares progress reports. 5. Communicates with parents and school staff on individual pupil's progress. 6. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems. 7. Works with others members of the staff in developing out-of-class playground activities for intramurals, clubs, field days, and for free play activities at recess, noon, before and after school. 8. May teach one or more classes of adapted physical education for pupils with orthopedic and/or medical problems. 9. Selects and requisitions equipment, and instructional supplies and maintains required inventory records. 10. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during assigned work day.
